RCC entered the match against Fleet Street Strollers with the aim of winning with smiles on our faces or, should this not be possible, showing clear improvement over last week's match against the Cowboys
Batting first, we looked to build a mighty Manhattan across the breadth of 40 overs,Instead we barely managed to pay homage to that of our own local Roehampton.
Recognition must of course go to the Strollers' bowlers who managed to bowl consistently accurately and gave us very few bad deliveries to swing at, and their fielders for supporting their bowlers so well. Two RCC batsmen and three RCC partnerships reached double figures; Strollers' three opening bowlers conceding less than 10 runs each (whilst bagging 5 wickets between them).
Strollers showed their class all round, by bashing off the runs required before drinks although the Cavs bowled and fielded with much greater commitment than last week. To next week, to the Cav's first match against Putney and to a brighter, sunnier day.
(Special mention the Strollers opener who hit a 6 from the pitch nearest the container, into cow corner on the other side of the heath.... Mo would be proud of that one! - Ed)
