The U13s first Surrey North West League match of the season was away v Old
Wimbledonians. The team kicked off the season with an impressive 10 wicket
victory. Thanks to coach Prince for looking after the team and for umpiring.
Capt. Fred won the toss and elected to bowl. They were all out for 48 off
just 11 overs 5 balls. The pick of the bowlers were Anthony Crundwell (2
overs, 3 runs, 3 wickets) and Fred Sendell (2 overs, 1 maiden, 1 run, 3
wickets) who opened the attack, Al Power (2 overs, 6 runs, 1 wicket) and Joe
Turton (0.5 overs, 1 maiden, 0 runs, 2 wickets). 5 other bowlers did well
too, bowling 1 over each. Quentin Ballard did a fine job keeping wicket and
Joesph Matthew had a great run out. Probably the biggest area
for improvement is in the field, not surprising for the first match. Extras
incl. 5 wides, 2 no balls and 19 byes (their biggest scorer). The opening
batsmen Joe Turton (19 runs) and Oz Power (15 runs) batted steady at first
and then started playing some great shots, reaching 50 in just 9 overs to
wrap up the match. Great start! No doubt tougher matches to come.
Many thanks.
Greg Sendell.
