Barnes win by 12 runs 99/7 v 87/7

Scorecard: https://surreyjuniorchampionship.play-cricket.com/website/results/4908002

First loss of the season for u13s, by just 12 runs. Cup match v Barnes, which went the distance - our first match that took all the overs! Close, exciting match against the best opponents so far this season (at least we play them again in the league so will get another crack). We won the toss and choose to bowl (which usually plays to the team's strengths) however, with hindsight we should probably have batted first as the light for the last 30mins was particularly difficult for our batsmen.

There were probably a few factors that contributed to coming up 12 runs short. In the field the team need to work on coughing up byes (12 - which was similar to Barnes 13) and taking our catches. One difference was the wides, we bowled 9 to their 5 (nbs were similar and low). The bowlers need to remember that in u13s rules it's not just a extra run for a wide but that the ball is re-bowled.

6 players shared the 15 overs. Ollie, Fred, Anthony, William x 3 overs, Percy x 2 and Joe x 1. The economy rate was similar. William & Percy picked up a good wicket each, Anthony got 2 including a good catch from Ollie. Billy kept wicket really well and got 2 good run outs.

Chasing 99 the batsmen gave it their best shot. Unfortunately a couple of batsmen went cheaply but Joe (9 strike rate 69) was hitting it well before getting out to a good ball - Barnes's had 2 bowlers in particular who bowled really well. Ollie added important runs and it was a shame to lose him too (17 strike rate 74). Fred (22 strike rate 85) and Billy (20 strike rate 100) added 42 between them but the team ran out of overs. There were a few great boundary stops by Barnes that denied the batsmen a few runs - this also contributed to coming up a bit short.

Overall a great match, a good run chase and hopefully some good lessons learned for future league matches.
