The opening game of the league season ended in disappointment for a Roehampton team who put up a fight against Lingfield at the Heath.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl RCC kept a lid on the scoring rate while picking up the odd wicket as the opening exchanges proved a tight affair and drinks were taken with Lingfield 85-3. After drinks the visitors were able to accelerate the scoring rate and despite some game bowling from the likes of Price (2-40) and Lyell (2-39) the visitors were indebted to a fine innings of 101 from Lloyd which laid the foundations of an imposing total.
RCC started quickly in reply but where Lingfield kept wickets in hand for end-of-innings assault, we lost wickets all too regularly in the middle order. Hope come in the form of a counter-attacking century stand between Sacha Hattea (46) and a superb 81 from Ryan Price which threatened to push RCC towards an unlikely win. Unfortunately their dismissals meant the chase petered our somewhat as RCC finished on 214.
