Putney CC Reclaim SW15 Cup

On a newly laid and damp track, Putney won the toss and decided to have a bowl as they had no idea how their new strip would play. RCC’s new opening pairing of Scott Costello and Phil Dorsett got off to a solid start on what was quite a tricky pitch with a lot of variable bounce. The first wicket fell for 96, a great opening partnership. Scott then carried on where he left off last year with a very well played 64 off 100 balls. We lost our way during the middle overs and despite a small hailstorm, Sacha Hateea showed a lot of aggression scoring a very good 26 off just 21 balls. RCC were finally all out for 190 which at the start of the day they certainly would have taken, but at one stage, being 127 for 2, they should have gone above 200.

Putney started cautiously and got away with a lot of edges and balls not going where the batsmen had intended. Sean Farrell made the breakthrough and then Fuchsy managed to get 3 lbw’s from the one and only Simon Cooper (don’t think his index finger has ever done so much work although if club cricket had DRS, Putney would have been 50 all out). However, Putney’s number 5 took a liking to some slow left arm bowling and after his first 5 overs only going for 4, his next 4 went for 39....oops. Tommy Easton bowled well and bagged a consolation wicket, but in the end Putney ran out easy winners.

We weren’t particularly sharp in the field (which is to be expected this early on in the season) and our bowling was inconsistent, but its good to get the season started and even better to welcome new boys Aaron Brook and Ed Lynam to the squad.
