U14s - Totally tropical! (the one with the trolley bag lady)
Banstead 85/0 (10) v RCC 81/10 (19.4)
As the clouds parted and the sun shone through, Roehampton won the toss and elected to bat on a wet but firm track. The opening pair, Will and Eddie, ripped into the early bowling, with Eddie looking to chalk up his first century. Unfortunately his eagerness for runs, saw him involved in two early run outs and then his own. He played some superb shots and top scored with 29. After Eddie’s dismissal, the run rate dropped and the fall of the wickets increased. Brandon briefly showed some early promise, hammering his first delivery for 4 so hard that many spectators thought an oak had been felled in the woods beyond. Banstead took heed and retreated to the boundary expecting more of the same. Unfortunately it didn’t come and after a big heave-ho from Brandon, with his head held high, his wickets fell.
Kyan showed some steely resistance scoring a pleasing unbeaten 20, giving him second highest score, above wides. 81 all out – an improvement by 1 from last week so surely a winning score for week?
Alas, the opposition were far more clinical. Our bowling was battered all over the park, with short and wayward deliveries ruthlessly dispatched. A massive six indicated the way this match was heading and their opening pair finished us off with plenty to spare.
Yet, in defeat, the spirit and camaraderie of this team lives on.

Good: batted out innings and some outstanding batting performances against one of Surrey's top U14 teams
Room for improvement: batting shot selection including leaves, bowler choice to keep run pressure up and invite wicket taking opportunities
