Difficult conditions for bowling

On arriving at the ground, it looked like it was going to rain – five minutes later our prescience was confirmed as the first drops began to fall. Whilst the rain was not heavy it did make fielding and bowling very difficult. However, lots of ball drying and careful run ups helped to deliver a good performance in the field with only our catching letting us down. If we had taken our catches, we would have almost halved their score – something to work on.

Unfortunately, having fielded in the wet the weather improved with the opposition having the best weather for bowling and fielding. However, the boys showed some solid batting against some very accurate and quick bowling. With improved calling and shot selection we could have avoided a few wickets – our main problem in building a good score.

So, a few things to work on (catching, calling and shot selection) but as ever real improvements were seen from all. Things for umpire to keep working on – counting!

Highlights today included:
George B – Opened the bowling and was accurate and showed improving pace
Rufus – Quick bowling and adjusted well after losing footing
Finlay – Great start with a wicket and a catch in his first game
George L – Good batting and running in our last pair
Harry – Kept well in really tricky conditions and some good shots
Daniel – In his own words the best over he has bowled – I would agree, good accuracy and very close to a wicket
Oscar – Deft shots against some tricky bowling
Callum – Excellent shots. Slow outfield stopped a couple of otherwise certain boundaries
William – Brilliant defence against their best bowler
Isaac – Some good shots from quick hands
