What a match! I haven’t been so excited since the summer of 2005. Two very evenly matched teams that played some excellent cricket in rather inclement conditions. Whilst the rain made playing difficult, with the ball slipping out of hands in the field our bowling and fielding display was much improved. Some accurate bowling and throwing resulted in some early wickets and restricted Dulwich’s score. After 12 overs Dulwich were just 227 and in the final 8 overs, they could only add a further 31 runs to their score. A great performance in the field.
Coming into bat the boys had some hope but knew it would be difficult. Some good shots meant our total steadily built. However, our nemesis of losing wickets, whilst not as bad, was still present. Calling improved but at times could be suicidal – luckily the slippery ball helped us at times! And we so nearly got there. However, despite a valiant shot and quick running by Georges L and B we could not get the two runs off the last ball required to win. But everyone who watched this match agreed how exciting it was and how much better the boys played as a team.
George L – Great shots, in particular the two boundaries that gave us hope
Rafi – Strong batting led to some boundaries.
George B – Great fielding and close to getting a couple of wickets
Zavi – Accurate bowling with two wickets
Harry – part of opening pair, great shots and confident running
Oscar – Looping flight bamboozled the batter
Sidd – Straight shots and good running
Ivo – Great pace bowling.
Luca – Some good shots and great fielding
William – Part of our opening partnership – great batting, calling and running
Things to work on:
We need to be more alert to catches and cut down on the suicidal second run. Shot
selection and defence.
