This week Roehampton U10s hosted Spencer (second time in two weeks - lucky us!) at our 2nd home ground, King George's Field next to Ham House. It wasn't a smooth setup, with yours truly turning up without the stumps, without the boundary makers and apparently without his brain!
More firsts this week:
Victoria and Anne took over the pre-game admin this week (a big thank you from me) - it was a baptism by fire as availability was effected by the long weekend and half term break.
Victoria scored her first game of cricket and had to cope with some random signals from the umpire that forgot his brain.
The first time we have started late.
As soon as the game started, Roehampton was immediately on the back foot as the opening pair from Spencer had obviously been watching the IPL and started trying to slap everything through midwicket - something they were pretty good at. Roehampton reigned Spencer in a bit with the second and third pair, however their number 8 was simply unstoppable scoring to all parts of the ground with some very big sixes. The Roehampton innings began well with the first two pairs scoring well, however the best of the Spencer bowling was yet to come. This resulted in pressure ramping up as runs stopped flowing and wickets started to fall later in the innings - Spencer running away with it in the end.
My highlights of the week
Archie some good stops when keeping and half of our most productive opening partnership this season.
Thomas B productive opening partnership with Archie and some great fielding to save several runs.
Rafi steaming in off the long run again and trying to anticipate where the Spencer bats were going to hit it through midwicket.
Luca lengthened his run resulted in some great deliveries and his solid batting was the perfect foil for Rafi.
George his improved and reliable bowling and starting to score runs off the middle of the bat.
Daniel his enthusiastic fielding and gutsing it out after being hit on the finger by Spencer's fastest bowler and demanding not to be swapped off-strike.
Thomas W proving himself wrong after telling me he wasn't a very good batsman as he walked out to bat.
William excellent line and length bowling - unlucky not to get a wicket after hitting the stumps and good, solid batting.
Siblings great to see so many siblings there to support the players.
