U13s v Streatham & Marlborough - Boys find WMD in Dulwich!

Roehampton encountered a strong Streatham side on Sunday and despite putting up a robust challenge unfortunately came up short.

Put into bat Roehampton started strongly with a good opening partnership between James and Mihir scoring 8 and 12 runs between them and looking in good form. Unfortunately Roehampton were then subjected to a masterclass of spin bowling by a Streatham u/12 player who bowled a good line and length of leg spin (he ended with figures of 5-10 off 4 overs). He, together with their pace bowler complimenting him from the other end, ripped through the Roehampton middle order, turning a score of 20-0 to 45-7!.

The last three Roehampton batsmen made a defiant stand with good batting from William, Badger and George, adding on 36 to leave Streatham chasing 82 to win.

Streatham were never really in trouble. Their opening batsman was bowled by Mihir for 3 and Jim finally bowled their top scorer with a full toss for 21. They had strength in depth however and proved too strong for Roehampton scoring the required 82 for 3 wickets off 15 overs. The Roehampton bowling was consistently good but the Streatham batsmen found gaps in the field to knock off the moderate target set.

A lesson learnt for Roehampton; against good bowling the batsmen need to play themselves in, not seek to get runs off every ball and take their time to build a decent score.
