The 2s made the short journey to Sheen Park at a ground that often produces exciting matches. Ably led by Josh Willmott (captain, opening batsman and wicketkeeper - he got value for his match fee!), we lost the toss and were asked to bat on a greasy green top.
Sacha Hatteea OBE (Sacha, you better get used to this - Ed.) proved adept at putting away long hops and full tosses as the score raced along. A strong position of 111/2 after 20 overs appeared to be being squandered as the score meandered along and batsmen came and went, Yas, Babs and others made important contributions as the change bowlers from Sheen Park settled on a good line and length and strangled the innings. Hugh Gerlach and Fahad Hasan ate up a number of overs as RCC tried to bat out 50 overs. The score trickled past 160 and maximum batting points at 180 looked a long way off. However, as the overs crept up the pressure began to get to Sheen Park, and some sensational hitting and running from Fahad took the score to 206/8 with 37 runs coming from the final 2 overs.
Skipper Josh took the old ball at the start of the second innings, with Babs and Yas opening the bowling. An early wicket for Babs opened the door for Yas to run through the Sheen Park top order, the highlight being a nonchalant one handed catch at mid-off by Shahid. Yas' 5th wicket came just after Babs' second, and Sheen Park were in trouble at 40/7
RCC kept the pressure on, and Sheen Park were bowled all out for 66 with Yas getting 5, Babs getting 4 and Shahid 1 as RCC won by 140 runs.
