The 2s get off the mark on Eurovision night

This week RCC welcomed Sheen Park on the day of the Eurovision song contest. What do we know about Sheen Park? I was once paid, yes, paid to coach cricket there as part of a summer camp, I was aged about 16 – read into that what you will.

RCC lost the toss, but thanks to the wonderfully well-oiled machine that is two’s cricket, Sheen didn’t have a full side so opted to Bat first. Roey’s proceeded to bowl. Sometimes bowling good balls and sometimes bowling bad balls. Sometimes the batsman played good shots and sometimes the batsman played not so good shots, occasionally these combinations resulted in RCC getting a batsman out. Eventually RCC managed to this 10 times. With all of the bowlers doing that an even amount each. Some of the Sheen batsman batted for longer and batted better than other Sheen batsman. One of them ended up on 40 something. Roehampton fielded atrociously. 30 runs went between legs and three and a half catches went down. One and a half from yours truly. Karma hey. Sheen Park set Roeys 191 to chase.

Of course, as soon as tea started, the sky fell down. No covers at the heath either.

Roeys openers Josh Wilmott and Harry Purnell set about chasing the runs against a handy opening pair on a pitch, that had all of a sudden come to life. Reports from the middle of the ball jagging all over the place. Both openers eventually fell to the straight one (might need a coach on this one, seems to happen a lot). Dan Wrenn and Joe Purnell proceeded to put a 120 partnership on to see RCC to within touching distance. Purnell also fell to the straight one, Stu Allen came out to finish off the runs with Dan. Dan finishing up on 100*, on debut. Guess we won’t be seeing him in the two’s next week then… That’s the first 20 points of the season for the Two’s. Fix our fielding up and we will be a good side in this league. (Genius! Why have we not thought of this before?! - Ed)

Post match de brief – I shot off early but understand there was a Eurovision screening in the club. I missed it, my Australian friends reckon they were robbed.
