The week where the weather took over our lives checking if the game on Saturday will go ahead or not kept us on our toes. Should we bowl first, Should we bat first?
Usual day started on a Saturday with the set up at the Heath whilst I was scurrying around to get my boxers and socks from Fordham cricket shop. (I had forgotten to pack my regular ones which I wear week in week out). Nervy start as a drizzle passed us whilst the oppo made their way to the club house.
I decided to toss up at the clubhouse with my lucky coin and this time it went against me. The oppo decided to put us into bat thinking the rain during the week might play a part and roll us over easily, but Sticky had other ideas and took the attack to their bowlers. Dave tried to give a stand but fell to their annoying first change bowler who thought he was Imran Khan from the ends. Sticky batted well for his 65 until he got stumped and JP and Phil dug deep to keep the run rate going. Max and Mo also tried to see off their decent off spinner and when Ron walked into bat, it felt like he found everything too easy and raced to his decent knock of 41 runs. At that stage we thought Ron can’t do anything wrong this season.
We finished on 213/9 and the target got reduced to 209 in 43 overs as we had a short break during our innings due to a shower.
New ball was as usual given to Mo and Umer who finally found their line and lengths midway through their spells and finished with 3 wickets for Mo and 1 wicket for Umer. JP and Jonno tied their batsman down and forced mistakes and made roads to their tail enders which Ron cleaned up nicely to give us our second win in a row. Come to think of it, it wasn’t a bad toss to lose and that means the coin still remains lucky.
Men of the Match
Sticky for his 65 and Ron for his 41 and 2/5 in 3 overs
