RCC 2nd XI vs Old Tennisonians 2nd XI

By Stephen Kent
Your roving reporter joins the action in full swing with Mr Edwards firing the ball at the Old Tennisonians ...
... and soon after Mr Purnell snagged a sitter, caught behind.
Mr Matthew's attacked at the other end.
Although RCC didn't have it their own way on a good batting pitch as Old Tennisonians picked up their runs.
There was certainly no lack of passion and will-power in the RCC attack ...
... and wickets did continue to fall ...
... with Mr Edwards continuing his downhill attack.
However, Old Tennisonians continued to attack and their scoreboard pressure forced Captain Gunesekara to look for a variation of attack ...
... with Mr G. Patel rifling in up the slope.
A scorching day, with two drinks breaks and good reason for supporters to come along. Here we can see RCC's own Mr Farrell displaying his injured, blackened buttocks to the team, perhaps to stir them to greater deeds on the pitch ...
... and then encouraging an RCC siege mentality by delivering a friendly welcome to your roving reporter ...
... before then finally settling down to follow the match taking place at Lord's ...
... and engaging in banter. Surely this gentle soul is not the sort to put incriminating and defamatory photographs of someone feeling a little rough (after tucking into the shooters) onto the net?
With Captain Gunesekara rotating his bowlers due to the stifling heat and the search for ever more wickets, Mr Moderegger came on for a rare spell ...
... and although the runs kept coming ...
... the wickets continued to fall until the Old Tennisonians' innings finished at 248/9 off their 52 overs.
It was near pitch black when, in the final over, RCC 2nd XI lost their last wicket on 201, just 5 runs short of the winning draw. Disappointing as it is to come so close it is also testimony to the RCC team's never-say-die attitude to come so close.
