RCC 1st XI vs Byfleet, 11 August 2011

By Stephen Kent
Your roving reporter arrived on a fine Saturday afternoon to see the Roehampton gentry lapping up the good weather ....
... and some champagne cricket.
The action (as recorded) starts with Mr Stevens bowling downhill to Byfleet's in-form batsman.
At the other end, Mr Fuchs used his slow, wily dobbers to test Byfleet's best.
However Byfleet were still able to pick off their runs ...
... until Captain Fantastic hit his straps with three remarkable deliveries. Victim One: bored of waiting for the ball to arrive, plays around it - LBW!
Byfleet's finest is in a pensive mood, retreating to the outfield for some solitude.
Victim Two: facing a mean stare, and with kittens in his stomach, plays around it - LBW!
Byfleet's finest tries to keep his nerves from fraying by doing some stretches. End of the over ...
... and Mr Easton is brought in to terrorize Byfleet from the other end, fizzing some fine swingers past the edge.
Hat trick ball and Captain Fantastic locks onto his target, Victim Three's stumps. Will Victim Three have the nerves, guile and ability to withstand a death-rattle?
Wilting, he plays around the ball ...
... bails removed, he becomes the hattrick victim.
Wickets continue to fall with Mr Fuchs collecting a 5-for ...
... although Byfleet's best continued his good form ...
... until one of his team mates ran him out.
After a lazy journalistic start the the RCC innings, your roving reporter heads out for more action and finds that local spectators are still gripped by the action.
Mr Farrell backing up ...
... and Mr Mowatt playing with deliberation.
Later, Mr Dorset gets stuck in to Byfleet's opening (and closing) bowler ...
... as does Mr Farrell, putting the bash on the bad deliveries.
With a difficult ask of 223 in 43 overs for the win, RCC continued battling ...
... Mr Dorset putting away the bad deliveries ...
... and Mr Vereker swishing wide balls away.
With the continued loss of wickets, RCC were glued to the on-field action ...
... and despite the fading light ...
... RCC continued to attack.
Finally, Mr Hunting saw RCC to what appeared to be a winning draw before the innings finished at 180/9 off the 43 overs.
