Conditions were lovely on Saturday in a match in which Alleyn CC won the toss and elected to bat first.
Given Alleyn’s position in the table, Fahad’s prematch talk emphasised the importance in keeping their total down to double figures. In that respect, Roehampton CC did not disappoint. There was great consistency from the bowlers at both ends, which really limited scoring opportunities for the Alleyn batsmen. Unsurprisingly, the wickets were evenly shared with Umer and Fahad taking two, and Tom with 3.
With Alleyn all out for 89, the chase was on. However, early wickets for Alleyn found Roehampton on the back ropes. Despite having many overs to spare, wickets were a premium, and with 6 wickets down things began to look rather bleak. In stepped Sadeed to try and change the momentum of the game with some explosive shots, hitting 3 boundaries (including a 6). Jamie Weatherald, of Alleyn CC, was a thorn in Roehampton’s side all day though and he collected his 5 wickets to end the match with Roehampton all out for 71.
