RCC U15s: Win of the century?!

RCC 198/6 v Dulwich CC 124/9

A perfect Summer's morning welcomed a mixed age group Dulwich side to our Roehampton home ground.

Our U15 regulars were similarly joined by two younger siblings, U12 Sophia Lovett-Turner fresh from nationals hockey victory and U13 Sam Barnett stepping up as honorary members of the team.

Winning the perfunctory toss (owing to absences Dulwich needed to field first) captain Eddie padded up and took to the crease. What followed was one of the most entertaining matches of the season so far with so many highlights it's difficult to know where to begin however a few are below.

With the bat
Will B's 127 (3x6s and 19c4s) must go down as a cohort record and off 61 balls one of the fastest scoring (208 strike rate) providing Dulwich with a comprehensive tour of the wilds past our outfield.

With the ball
Ben R's 4 wickets for 22 from 4 overs
Hugh's wicket for 8 from 3 overs
William LT's 3 wickets run out, caught and bowled
George's first ever maiden
Sophia's single handed catch full stretch at cover taking her first Surrey league wicket to add to her first run (as well as first match with hard ball!)
Elliot's economy of 2.3 from 3 overs and two catches, the last at 5th slip to take Dulwich's penultimate wicket in the last over of the innings demonstrating that the team's fun 5 slip all-or-nothing field configuration can on occasion take wickets!

Eddie's well judged captaincy throughout ensured almost everyone got a chance to make a contribution to the final result and of course as always thanks to Kamini and Gayle for the welcome refreshments and diligent scoring.

Room for improvement
We conceded 50 in extras, several as avoidable boundary byes and alertness in the field could both have reduced these and yielded some clear catch and run out opportunities. Bowlers would do well to remember to avoid running on to the protected area of the pitch 5ft past the popping crease and 2ft wide in line with the stumps.

First win of the season - well done boys!
